Dresses made for the photograph you keep
Silkvane makes occasion wear for small girls — the dress for the wedding she is walking down the aisle in, the birthday she has been counting down to, the christening her grandmother flew in for.
We started because the market seemed to offer two things and nothing in between: fast fashion that arrives looking thinner than the photograph, or heirloom pieces priced as though a child will wear them more than twice. We wanted the middle. Real fabric, appliqué applied by hand, tulle with enough structure to hold its shape through a whole afternoon — at a price that acknowledges she will grow out of it by next summer.
How we work
Every style in our collection is made in small runs by ateliers we have selected individually. Where a dress is described as handmade, that means a person placed each flower — which is also why no two are quite identical. We think that is a feature.
We keep our range deliberately small. Ten styles, chosen carefully, rather than a hundred chosen by an algorithm. If a dress is not good enough to put on our own daughter, it does not go on the site.
Sizing and fit
Our dresses run from 2–3 years to 7–8 years. Ball gown silhouettes carry more volume than a high-street equivalent, so please read the size guide before ordering — measurements are more reliable than her usual shop size.
Getting in touch
We are a small team and we answer our own email. If something is wrong with your order, or you want advice on which size to pick, write to us and a person will reply.
